1.2 metric tonnes of flowers and organic waste collected after Rath Yatra in Vadodara

After the completion of the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannathji on Ashadhi Bij in Vadodara city, the corporation’s sanitation workers cleaned the route of the Rath Yatra and collected solid waste including plastic, flowers and organic waste. Approximately 1.2 metric tons of such waste was collected and sent to make organic fertilizer. In addition, a total of 3.5 metric tons of waste including plastic was collected. The flowers and organic waste have been sent to the system set up by the sisters of Sakhi Mandal at Masiya Lake to make organic fertilizer. Along with flowers, banana peels were also present in this waste. Yesterday, bananas were also given in Prasad along with Sheera. Approximately 120 kg of organic fertilizer is prepared from 1.2 metric tons of waste. It takes about 15 days to make this fertilizer, while the solid waste collected, including plastic, contained more plastic water bottle waste. The plastic waste has been sent to the corporation’s plant, where plastic pellets are made from the plastic waste.
