An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck near Jhajjar in Haryana this morning and its tremors were felt as far as Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was 51 km west of Delhi and 3 km northeast of Jhajjar. The epicenter of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground. The earthquake struck at 9.04 am. Apart from Jhajjar, it was also felt in Rohtak, Gurugram, Panipat, Hisar and Meerut. An elderly man from Jhajjar said that this was a powerful tremor. In my opinion, this was the first time in my life that I have felt such a powerful tremor of an earthquake. He said that as soon as the earthquake hit, people ran out of their houses. As soon as the tremors of the earthquake were felt in Delhi, an atmosphere of fear spread and people gathered in open spaces. Sultan Khan, a resident of Vikaspuri, said that it was a very scary experience. We suddenly felt that the earth was shaking and we immediately ran out of the house. Another resident, Ahmed Ali, said that it was a scary moment. The tremors did not last long but were so strong that we woke up from our sleep. My children are still scared.
