A mega oil palm plantation drive was organized under the “National Mission on Edible Oils Oil Palm” at Sarol village in Borsad taluka of Anand district by the Horticulture Department and Patanjali Food Limited. Under this drive, a total of more than 286 oil palm seedlings of Tenera variety were planted in 2.0 hectares of land in the field of progressive farmer Himantasinh Khodabhai Jadav of Sarol village. Also, more than 350 oil palm seedlings were planted on 2.5 hectares of land on the institutional land of Mahi Kantha Seva Mandal. Farms Cooperative Societies/Government Institutions/Farmers’ Organizations/Farms Producer Organizations (FPO) are eligible for the benefit under the oil palm scheme. If oil palm is planted in the land of the institutions/society through government institutions in Anand district, they can also get a new source of income, so that various institutions of Anand district can take maximum benefit, Anand Deputy Director of Horticulture Dr. Smita Pillai has requested. It is worth mentioning here that, the Horticulture Department provides Rs. 29000 per hectare for saplings cost from Patanjali Food Limited for new plantation to the farmers cultivating oil palm and Rs. 42,000 per hectare for intercropping/input cost to the farmers during a period of 4 years, Rs. 50,000 per unit for new borewell/pump set/water harvest structure, Rs. 2,00,000/- for mini tractor with trolley (up to 20 HP).
