Villagers of Mirgaon have to travel 10 kms every day for treatment, serious allegations against CHO Kanpur Dehat, Sikandra (Rajpur). The ground reality of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of providing health services in rural and remote areas of the country, is under question in villages like Mirgaon. The ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ established in Mirgaon Nyay Panchayat of Rajpur development block is locked and serious allegations have surfaced against the hospital in-charge not only of taking money in exchange for medicines but also of threatening on complaint. Allegation of collecting โน5-โน10 in exchange for medicines, threat received on complaint Rajbabu, Akash, Ravindra, Anshu Patel, and many other villagers told that CHO Akanksha Katiyar is posted at the sub-health center of Mirgaon, but the hospital remains closed continuously. Villagers quipped, “This hospital opens only on Diwali and Holi, the rest of the time it remains locked.” Rajbabu alleged that on the day the hospital opens, patients are charged 5 to 10 rupees for medicines. The villagers said that when a complaint was made about this negligence on the Chief Minister’s helpline number 1076, the hospital in-charge Akanksha Katiyar herself reached the houses of many villagers and threatened them in indecent language, asking why they complained. The villagers are forced to travel a distance of 10 km every day for treatment Sikandra town is about 10 to 11 kilometers away from Mirgaon. When the local Arogya Mandir is closed, the villagers are forced to get treatment from quack doctors in Sikandra or Hariharpur village 5 kilometers away. This situation hurts the dignity of the scheme which was started by the Prime Minister with the aim of โHealth in every villageโ. PHC in-charge gave the argument of vaccination, villagers said โ this is the situation every day When Block Medical Officer Dr. Amit Niranjan was contacted in the matter, he said that “Today Akanksha Katiyar was on vaccination duty in Alhanipur village, that is why the hospital was closed.” However, the villagers rejected this argument and said that this problem is not of just one day – “It is locked here almost every day.” When asked for a response on the allegations of charging money for medicines and not opening the hospital, the BMO said that “the in-charge is appointed from Lucknow, we only supervise at the local level.” CMO took cognizance, promised investigation On the whole matter, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. A.K. Singh said that “The matter will be investigated. Whoever is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him.” However, the villagers fear that the investigation may also remain a formality, as has happened earlier also. Will any concrete action be taken against the officials who tarnished the reputation of Ayushman Yojana? Or will the health problems of villages like Mirgaon be buried in the papers of investigation, notices and warnings?
