A meeting of the state cabinet was held in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Giving information about the important decisions taken in this meeting, Spokesperson Minister Hrishikesh Patel said that a total of 9 municipalities have been given the status of municipal corporation this year for various works to enhance public amenities in the towns and cities of the state. In which it has been announced to give the status of municipal corporation to Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Mehsana, Surendranagar-Dudhrej-Wadhwan, Nadiad and Porbandar-Chhaya. He further said that various representations were made by MLAs, members of parliament, various organizations and locals to change the name of Anand Municipal Corporation and to maintain the unique identity of Karamsad, the ancestral village of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of an independent India. Considering the historical heritage of Karamsad included in the municipality, a resolution was approved in the cabinet to rename the Anand Municipal Corporation as “Karamsad-Anand Municipal Corporation”, “KARAMSAD ANAND MUNICIPAL CORPORATION”, which is connected to Karamsad, the birthplace of Pujya Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is worth mentioning here that the state government, by notification dated 01 January 2025, converted Anand Municipality, Karamsad Municipality and Vallabhvidyanagar Municipality and other nearby villages into ‘Anand Municipal Corporation’.
