Karnataka government’s big decision! Proposal to fix maximum price of cinema ticket at Rs 200

The Karnataka government on Tuesday took a big decision to fix the price of film tickets across the state. The government has issued a draft notification in this regard. The notification states that the price of tickets in all cinema halls or multiplexes across the state cannot exceed ₹ 200. Entertainment tax will also be included in this price. To make cinema more affordable, the Karnataka government has proposed an amendment to the Karnataka Cinema (Regulation) Rules, 2014, under which the maximum price of cinema tickets including entertainment tax will be fixed at Rs 200 per show. This price will be applicable to cinema halls, multiplexes and films of all languages in the state. The draft notification issued by the Home Department under the Karnataka Cinema (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025 has been issued on July 15. The Karnataka government has also sent proposals in this regard from the public, theater owners and concerned parties and sought objections and suggestions within 15 days. Discussions about controlling ticket prices have been going on for many years, but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke about it in the 2025-26 budget and clearly mentioned a limit of ₹200. The move is aimed at preventing ticket price hikes, especially in urban multiplexes, and ensuring equal access to cinema for all sections of society.
