12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday (July 11) said that it is a proud moment for the state to include the ‘Marathi Military Landscapes’, which represent the fortification system of the Marathi rulers, in the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The decision was taken during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in Paris. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted on social media platform X, saying, ‘The Maharashtra government salutes our beloved Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj! Warm wishes to all the citizens and devotees of Maharashtra. The ‘Maratha Military Scenery’ includes the forts of Salher, Shivneri, Lohgadh, Khanderi, Raigadh, Rajgadh, Pratapgarh, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra and the Jinji district of Tamil Nadu. Fadnavis further said that Shivaji Maharaj built this fort for Swarajya. The Chief Minister said that many people have contributed to the efforts to get it included in the UNESCO list. Amit Shah wrote on X that this is a very proud moment for all the countrymen, when UNESCO has included 12 forts related to the life of Maharajadhiraj Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the UNESCO heritage. Just a few days ago, the symbols associated with the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were blessed with self-realization by visiting Raigad Fort. This fort has been a major pillar for the defense of Hindu Swaraj and from here, crores of countrymen continue to get inspiration towards their own language and culture.
