Congress party leader Shri Amit Chavda said in the assembly that a situation has been created in Gujarat where the life of any Gujarati is of no value in the commission government. It is with great sadness that we have to say that in the last few years, during the rule of the government run by the people’s tax money, there has been a game zone fire incident in Rajkot, Morbi bridge collapse, Vadodara boat accident, Takshashila incident in Surat and finally the Gambhira bridge collapse in which more than 18 lives were lost. Shri Chavda said that Gujaratis are not safe in Gujarat, there is a situation where God is the only one to trust. The government’s budget is made with the people’s tax money, bridges, roads or other development works are done from it, but the full responsibility of seeing to it that its safety, maintenance, and proper quality work is done lies with the people in power. Is the bridge safe or not? Is it dangerous or not? Where can a common man check it, and where can he go to get a safety certificate, or whether there will be no accidents, no accidents, no loss of life when crossing the bridge, it is up to the government to trust, but the government should announce that every bridge or structure before the monsoon will be inspected by the executive engineer or superintendent engineer. Even in the esteemed High Court, when a suo moto case was filed after the Morbi bridge, the government had said that we have inspected all the bridges in Gujarat, all the bridges are safe, none are dangerous. Yet why did they not announce that the Gambhir bridge is dangerous? Why was the bridge not closed for public movement? Further, Shri Amit Chavda said that we have written evidence that a letter has been written to the Collector and Executive Engineer of Vadodara District Panchayat since 2022 that when heavy vehicles pass over this bridge, the entire bridge shakes, the bridge is dangerous, it should be closed for public traffic and a new one should be built. Similarly, it has been presented time and time again that this bridge is in a dilapidated condition, immediate repairs should be done. When the Morbi bridge and other disasters occurred, the Congress party had publicly demanded from the government in writing, by holding a press conference, that the fitness certificates of all the bridges or structures in Gujarat, which also carry people and vehicles, be checked and whether they are fit for use, dangerous or not, and placed on the public domain, on the website or before the people so that such disasters can be prevented. Today, two years have passed but the government’s stomach is not moving and the government has not taken any action due to which the Gambhira Bridge disaster occurred. On the ninth day, at seven in the morning, when this disaster occurred, Shri Amit Chavda said that I congratulate the local people and fishermen there for working hard to save as many people as possible and find the bodies without waiting for government technology or anyone. Whenever accidents happen, small employees and officials are suspended. Why was no advance planning made keeping in mind the 2022-2023 presentations, why was the bridge not closed. So it has to be said that this disaster occurred due to the government’s criminal negligence and 18 people lost their lives. So if we want to fix the responsibility, instead of the small employees-officials, the Chief Minister, Minister or the officials sitting in Gandhinagar who take photos, make speeches, and receive applause when they go to inaugurate the bridge. So why don’t they take responsibility for this accident? Further, Shri Amit Chavda said that this Gambhira Bridge is the main bridge connecting Anand-Vadodara which is used by farmers, job seekers, and workers every day, but due to the collapse of the bridge, people have to travel 30-40 kilometers more and the time increases by about 3 to 4 hours. So, I request on behalf of the people of that place that the government should immediately announce the construction of a new bridge there. And until then, I demand that the alternative roads that are there should also remain functional with sufficient facilities.
