The Uniform Civil Code has come into effect in the state of Uttarakhand from January 27, 2025. Under this, it has been made mandatory to register all marriages between March 26, 2010 and January 26, 2025 under the UCC. Currently, a fee of Rs 250 is being charged for marriage registration. In such a situation, now the Uttarakhand government has decided that more and more people should get their marriage registered. For this, the registration of marriages done before January 27, 2025 will be free till July 26, 2025, i.e. if someone registers a marriage before July 26, 2025, then he will not have to pay the registration fee. In Uttarakhand, the six-month registration deadline under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is ending on July 27, 2025. In such a situation, there is a rush for registration of marriages, divorces and live-in relationships. Under the UCC, which came into force in the state from January 27, registration of all marriages, divorces and live-in relationships from March 26, 2010 till the implementation of the UCC has been made mandatory. The aim of this law is to ensure equal rights for all citizens, which includes provisions like gender equality, ban on polygamy and transparency in live-in relationships.
