This city complex, considered the economic capital of the district, has many state and central government offices. In the complex, which is bustling with shipping and transport industries, employees and businessmen go to spend time on Saturdays and Sundays in the box cricket fields that have sprouted like a cat’s top for fun. Recently, in Surat, the structure of the box cricket field collapsed amid the rainy weather, and such box cricket plots have come into the limelight. There are about 25 to 30 box cricket plots in this complex. Questions have been raised regarding the permission of such boxes for commercial activities. A similar situation is also in other cities of Kutch. After the structure of the box cricket field collapsed in Surat during the rain, questions have been raised regarding the permission of the box cricket field that has sprouted like a cat’s top in the state as well as in Gandhidham. In this complex, iron fences have been erected in 25 to 30 empty plots, mats have been laid down and customers (cricket enthusiasts) have been charged Rs. per hour. 1200 to 1400 are used, in which eight players can play. Amid the growing craze of box cricket, many people have set up such boxes in order to earn money. There is currently no SOP regarding box cricket, but it has become extremely necessary to announce it. Its initiative has been taken in Ahmedabad. Guidelines are also welcome for other places. The question has also arisen as to how electricity was provided in such open plots. The operators of the boxes doing commercial activities do not give any receipts to the cricket lovers, in fact, service tax has to be paid for providing the service, but knowledgeable people said that no such rules are applicable here. On the other hand, it was revealed that taxes are also being paid less in the Municipal Corporation by showing empty plots. Experts are also saying that the Municipal Corporation should assess and collect taxes on commercial activities, construction of iron fences, etc. Lack of assessment also affects the treasury of the municipality. After the incident in Surat, the municipal corporations in Surat and Ahmedabad are going to announce rules in the near future, regarding which objections have also been invited and suggestions have been sent to the government. In fact, knowledgeable people are saying that in such box cricket, toilets for women and men, fire NOC, not having a fence higher than a certain limit, parking arrangements so that the vehicles of the customers coming to play can be parked properly, CCTV cameras for security etc. should be installed to strengthen the security of the people. The question is whether the rules will be implemented here too after being implemented in Ahmedabad and Surat.
