Union Minister for Cooperation and Home Affairs, Hon’ble Shri Amit Shah on Saturday laid the foundation stone of ‘Tribhuvan’ Cooperative University in Anand, Gujarat, besides encouraging the inclusion of cooperative societies in the school curriculum. During his keynote address, Shri Amit Shah said, ‘As per the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, Tribhuvan Cooperative University will cater to the need of trained manpower in the cooperative sector, bring transparency, promote innovation, formulate policies and provide technical education in areas like accounting, marketing and cooperative values to ensure skills along with the spirit of serving the poor.’ The ground-breaking and foundation stone laying ceremony was held in a grand programme, in which several senior leaders of the Central and State Governments as well as thousands of entrepreneurial farmers from all over Gujarat were present. The event, held during the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, honoured Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his tireless efforts in rural development, which is an important initiative taken during the International Year of Cooperatives. The Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation, while launching the special curriculum on Cooperative Societies by CBSE, said, “CBSE has started including Cooperative Societies in the curriculum. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Education Minister, all three are present here. I request that, like CBSE, the Gujarat Government should also include Cooperative Societies as a subject in the syllabus books for classes 9 to 12. The Gujarat government should also include cooperative societies as a subject in its curriculum, so that the common people understand the importance of cooperative societies.’ On this occasion, the Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Honorable Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Shri Shankar Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Cooperation, Hon’ble Shri Krishan Pal, Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Hon’ble Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Honorable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Higher and Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, Shri Hrishikesh Patel, Honorable Minister of Cooperation, Government of Gujarat, Shri Jagdish Vishwakarma, Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Central Cooperation, Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, and Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Dr. Meenesh Shah and Vice Chancellor of ‘Tribhuvan’ Cooperative University, Dr. J. M. Vyas were present. Shri Amit Shah further said, ‘Tribhuvan University is named after Shri Tribhuvan Das Patel, who, under the guidance of Sardar Patel, gave the new idea of Kheda District Milk Producers Cooperative Union in 1946 and paved the way for empowerment of farmers and inspiring a movement, in which 36 lakh women are now doing business worth Rs 80,000 crore. His vision made the cooperative model a success, and with the support of Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastriji, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) could be formed, which transformed the efforts of a taluka into a nationwide movement. Now, this university will be the focal point of the vision of Sahakari Se Samriddhi. Giving the opening remarks, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel said, ‘The laying of the foundation stone of the country’s first cooperative university in Anand is a clear example of the right thing done at the right time and in the right place. I am confident that Tribhuvan Cooperative University will prepare a dedicated youth for the development of rural India by upholding cooperative values and revitalizing the cooperative sector to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047. The ‘Tribhuvan’ Cooperative University will provide specialized education, training and research opportunities in areas such as cooperative management, finance, law and rural development. It will empower cooperatives at the grassroots level, improve governance and accelerate inclusive and sustainable rural economic development by promoting innovation, capacity building and best practices.
