The central government has issued a new rule under the Wakf Act. This new rule relates to the Wakf portal and database of Wakf properties, the method of registration of Wakf properties and its audit. Under the new law, registration of every Wakf property has been made mandatory, the information of which will have to be given on the portal. Complete records of Wakfs across the country will be recorded A centralized portal and database has been created under the new rules, which will record complete records of Wakfs across the country. This includes uploading the list of Wakf properties, new registration, maintenance of Wakf register, providing information about accounts, publishing audit reports and registration of board orders. The manager of the Wakf property (Mutawalli) will register on the portal by logging in through OTP through his mobile number and email. After that, he will be able to upload the details of the Wakf and its properties. The Wakf Board will maintain the register of Wakf in Form 5 on the portal. The new rules have been made under the Wakf (Amendment) Act 2025, which has come into force from April 8, 2025. The Central Government notified the Wakf (Amendment) Act 2025 last month after receiving the assent of President Droupadi Murmu. The Wakf (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with the support of 288 members, while 232 MPs were against it. In the Rajya Sabha, 128 members voted in its favour and 95 members voted against it.
