Russia’s big decision, becoming the first country to recognize the Taliban government of Afghanistan

Shia has announced the formal recognition of the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Russian Ambassador Dmitry Zhirnov met with IEA-Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaki. During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador officially informed about his government’s decision to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. At the meeting, Zhirnov officially informed that the Russian government has decided to recognize the ‘Islamic Emirate’ of Afghanistan. The Russian Foreign Ministry said, ‘We believe that the official recognition of the government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will promote the development of productive bilateral cooperation between our countries in various fields.’ This decision comes at a time when most countries in the world have not yet recognized the Taliban as the official government. This is considered a major strategic shift in Russia’s foreign policy. Russia also became the first country to formally recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) have not yet recognized the Taliban.
