A series of cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh and heavy rains, floods and landslides in Odisha have caused widespread devastation. Cloudbursts occurred at 11 places in Himachal on Tuesday, killing 10 people and leaving 30 missing. In various incidents, 54 people have died in the state from June 20 to July 1. NDRF and SDRF have started relief and rescue operations on a war footing. An alert of heavy rain has been issued in many places in the state for four more days. In another incident, a landslide in Keonjhar district of Odisha on Tuesday buried many people under the debris. 3 deaths have been announced. After heavy rains, a landslide occurred in the Bichakundi area of Joda Thana area. Mining was going on in a mine near the incident site when the landslide occurred amid heavy rains. Nature wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh between June 30 and July 1. Cloudbursts occurred at 7 places in Gohar, Karsog, Thunag and Dharmapur in Mandi district. Due to which many houses collapsed. The heavy flood that followed the cloudburst has caused huge loss of life and property. In the throes of destruction in Chulathaj, many Deonar trees fell and were uprooted. Himachal has received heavy rain in the last 24 hours. Chief Minister Sukkhu has given a preliminary estimate of Rs 500 crore in this natural disaster. There is still a heavy rain alert in many districts including Mandi. Due to heavy rain in Mandi, the water level in Pandoh Dam has reached the danger mark. The Beas river has flooded. Water has returned everywhere, reminding us of the 2013 flood disaster. The ancient Panchvaktar Shiva temple of the city has submerged in water. In Gohar, Mandi, 9 people were uprooted in the flood amidst the cries of “Save.. Save.. Save.” Many families were on the roofs of their houses, seeking help for rescue. According to the state’s emergency management center, 406 roads are closed in the state due to heavy rains. Of which 248 are in Mandi district alone. 994 transformers are affected. After the onset of monsoon across the country, there have been incidents of heavy rain, floods and cloudbursts in many states.
