Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ghana on Wednesday on a two-day visit, his first bilateral visit to the West African country. He was accorded a grand welcome at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport and given a 21-gun salute. During this, PM Modi was conferred with Ghana’s second highest national civilian honour. PM Modi was conferred with the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ by Ghanaian President John Mahama. On receiving the national honour, Prime Minister Modi said, “It is a matter of great pride and honour for me to be honoured with the national honour of Ghana. I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama, the Government of Ghana and the people of Ghana. I humbly accept this honour on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians. I dedicate this honour to the aspirations of our youth, their bright future, our rich cultural diversity and traditions and the historic ties between India and Ghana.” Earlier, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received on Ghanaian soil and said it was a great honour for him that the President himself came to the airport. Releasing a joint statement, PM Modi said that at the heart of the India-Ghana friendship are our shared values, struggles and shared dreams for an inclusive future, which have also inspired other countries.
