Trade talks between India and the US have now reached the final stage. In such a situation, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, ‘A big trade agreement could be signed between the US and India very soon. India is now ready to reduce taxes for American companies, which will give American companies an opportunity to do business in India.’ Talking to the media, Trump said, ‘I think we will have a different kind of trade agreement with India. An agreement in which we will be able to go to India and compete openly. India has not opened its market to foreign companies so far, but now it is showing signs of change. If India does this, the US will have a strong trade agreement with low taxes.’ Trump had announced the imposition of a 26% tariff (import duty) on India on April 2, which has been postponed for 90 days. However, the minimum tariff of 10% is still applicable. If this agreement is reached between the two countries, it could be a major turning point in trade relations. Talks between the two countries have stalled over India’s dairy sector following Trump’s recent statement. According to government sources, the US wants India to open its dairy market to American products, but India has made it clear that there will be no compromise on this issue.
