The nearly year-long wait for a new BJP national president may end before the monsoon session of Parliament starting July 21. For the election of the national president, the party plans to elect new state presidents in about a dozen states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka, in the first week of July. In this context, National Election Officer Dr. K. Laxman on Friday appointed Union Ministers Harsh Malhotra, Kiren Rijiju and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad as election in-charges of Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and West Bengal respectively. It is noteworthy that for the election of the national president, it is mandatory to elect state presidents in at least 19 states out of 37 states and union territories. So far, the party has been able to do this in only 14 states. Another big problem is the election board to be formed for the election of the national president. The members of this board are only the leaders included in the national and state councils. States like UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka have a share of about 50 percent in these councils. In such a situation, after the state organization elections, the electoral body cannot be formed without filling the quota of these councils. Due to the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh has become a big headache for the central leadership. A fresh discussion has started for big changes in this state. According to sources, the central leadership will have to bring back the OBC vote bank that was scattered in the elections, along with finding a solution to the weakening of the BSP and its vote bank being attracted towards the SP-Congress. A comprehensive roadmap will be prepared in the state with the new state president.
