Chief Justice of India (CJI) B. R. Gavai has said that the Constitution of India is supreme and all three organs of democracy, the judiciary, the executive and the legislature, function under it. Not only this, the CJI also said that some people say that Parliament is supreme, but in my opinion, the Constitution is supreme. The Constitution is supreme in India itself A few days ago, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhade made a statement in which he said that ‘Parliament is supreme.’ In such a situation, CJI B. R. Gavai made an important comment while taking forward the discussion on the supremacy between Parliament, judiciary and the Constitution at his felicitation ceremony in his hometown Amaravati. In this regard, he said, ‘The Constitution of India is supreme in the country and all three organs of democracy function according to the Constitution. Parliament certainly has the power to amend the Constitution, but it can never tamper with the basic structure of the Constitution.’
