Train ticket prices to increase, to be implemented from July 1

In a shock to the passengers, the Indian Railways has announced an increase in the fares of AC and Express trains from July 1, 2025. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the rising cost, fuel prices and maintenance costs. Also, the relief news is that this price increase has been made in some categories only. According to the new railway tariff, there will be no increase in the fare for travel up to 500 km in General Second Class. But if the journey is more than 500 km, then an additional price of half a paisa per kilometer will have to be paid. In addition, those traveling in Mail/Express trains (non-AC) will now have to pay 1 paisa more per kilometer. Also, AC class tickets have been increased by 2 paisa per kilometer. There has been no change in the fare of urban trains, which will provide relief to lakhs of daily commuters. Also, there has been no increase in the pass rate.
