The flooring of the indoor stadium built to promote sports in Surat was damaged due to its use for garba and entertainment. After that, the municipality renovated the stadium at a cost of about 30 crores ten years ago along with other repairs. At that time, it was decided not to provide the stadium for Navratri. But taking a U-turn, the indoor stadium is being rented out again for Navratri. This year too, the Surat Municipality has sought an offer from the event management company organizing garba to rent the indoor stadium during Navratri. The indoor stadium, which was once considered a status symbol for Navratri, was rented out for a large amount during Navratri. In the years 2008-2009, the maximum offer for the indoor stadium was up to 1 crore. However, this stadium was used mostly for entertainment instead of sports. Due to this, the flooring of the stadium was severely damaged. Apart from this, the municipality had carried out other repairs in the stadium and renovated it at a cost of 30 crores in the year 2013. After that, sports events started. And after that, they started giving it for Garba again.
Offers have been invited once again for organizing Navratri at Surat Municipal Corporation’s indoor stadium.
