After the Maharashtra assembly election results were out, the opposition including the Congress had alleged tampering in the voter list. Now the Election Commission is creating a new system to address these allegations. The Election Commission said that if any political party alleges tampering in the voter list, it will have to answer for itself. That is, the party’s responsibility will be determined for every name added or removed from the voter list. Accordingly, a written consent will be taken from the Booth Level Agent (BLA) of the political parties appointed at the polling stations regarding every name added or removed from the voter list. If a party alleges tampering, the BLA’s asset certificate will be shown The Election Commission said that after obtaining consent from the BLA, when a party alleges tampering at a booth, it will be shown that the Booth Level Agent there had agreed that nothing like this had happened. Not only this, if any objection is raised by the booth level agent regarding the addition or deletion of a name in the voter list, then the complete details of the decision taken by him will be kept. Meanwhile, the Election Commission will also ensure that there is a BLA at every booth. For this, booth level agents associated with political parties will be given special training. Apart from this, if the BLA objects to someone’s name, their objection will be recorded with the reason. After that, the Voter Registration Officer will investigate it and take a decision. If, however, political parties raise any objection, they can challenge the issue before the District Election Officer and then the State Election Officer.
