Assam Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Expansion of Purbi Dairy Plant at Panjabari, Guwahati on July 20, 2025 Organized by NDDB-run West Assam Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited (WAMUL) By participating in the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, Assam dairy sector was given a significant boost. The milk processing capacity of this upgraded facility plant has increased from 1.5 lakh liters per day (LLPD). Will be doubled to 3 lakh liters per day (LLPD). Shri Jogen Mohan, Honorable Minister for Cooperation, Government of Assam; Honorable Shri Krishnandu Paul, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Government of Assam; Shri Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam; Dr., Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Meenesh Shah and other dignitaries were present on this occasion. Honorable Chief Minister Shri had said that, ‘The expansion of Eastern Dairy Plant will help in the dairy sector. A step taken towards realizing our vision of making Assam self-reliant It is an important step. By doubling the processing capacity of this plant, we will provide market to a large number of cattle farmers of the state. We are ensuring that accessibility is increased but at the same time we are ensuring the nutritional security of our people. are also increasing. I would like to thank NDDB and Purbi Dairy for strengthening Assam’s dairy ecosystem and enhancing rural livelihoods. I congratulate them for their efforts in providing support.’ NDDB and WAMUL Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah said, ‘This Purbi Dairy and the cooperative families we represent, This is an important occasion for them. Purvi Dairy Plant Expansion A Testament To The Power Of Cooperative Efforts And Strategic Vision Is. Under the Purabi Dairy brand by West Assam Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited (WAMUL). The Punjabari plant is the largest dairy processing facility in North-East India. The objective behind this expansion is to increase the milk processing capacity of the plant from 1.5 LLPD to 3.0 LLPD. In which the production of pasteurized pouch milk will be increased from 1.15 LLPD to 2.0 LLPD. Additionally, a new ice cream production facility of 20 TLPD (thousand liters per day) expandable to 30 TLPD and A total of 70 TLPDs including other dairy products will be included in this expansion. The expanded units will increase operational efficiency and improve the quality of milk and dairy products for the customers. Will be equipped with facilities to meet the increasing demand. The plant is a part of the Assam Dairy Development Plan (ADDP), which envisages establishment of formal dairy farms in the state. Processing of 10 lakh liters of milk per day (LLPD) has been envisaged in the area. Earlier, with the help of World Bank funds, the daily capacity of Punjabari plant was increased to 60,000 kg under APART project. It was increased from 1.5 lakh liters per day to 1.5 lakh litres. This plant accelerated the growth of distribution of Purabina products throughout the state, which led to Almost 100% capacity was utilized within 18 months of inauguration. Due to this, the current expansion of the plant has become necessary. The expansion of this plant will help in the development of Assam Dairy Cooperative Movement and increase the consumer interest in Purabi’s products. This is evidence of growing faith.
