A new canal bridge will be built at a cost of crores in place of the 170-year-old bridge, the construction site was decided after inspection

Auraiya. The nearly 170-year-old canal bridge built during the British rule in Achalda town of Tehsil Bidhuna has now reached a dilapidated condition. In view of the dangerous condition of the bridge, the plan to build a new bridge next to it has been approved. A joint team of Irrigation Department and Public Works Department (PWD) inspected the site on Monday.

During the inspection, Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Sanjay Kumar and PWD Executive Engineer Amar Singh determined the place for the new bridge in about 7 meters width in the eastern direction. Rs 3 crore 15 lakh has been sanctioned by the government for this work in January 2025 and the tender process has also been completed.
This bridge is located on the Lower Ganges Canal on the Achalda-Bidhuna road, where the movement of heavy vehicles is now prohibited. Construction work is likely to start soon.
