Kanpur, On the initiative of District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, four sewing machines were installed in the women barrack of District Jail, Kanpur. The objective of this initiative is to train women prisoners with useful skills during the jail period and to make them self-reliant and economically capable. The chief guest of the program, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said on this occasion that prison is a medium of reform and rehabilitation. Efforts are being made to connect women prisoners with the mainstream of society by providing them useful life skills. He said that through such creative programs, prisoners can use their time positively. Under this program, training will be started by sewing two suits each as a gift to each female prisoner. The training is being arranged by advocate and social worker Ms. Disha Arora, who is also the President of Achintya Charitable Foundation. After the training, willing and skilled women prisoners will be assigned regular sewing work and they will also be given remuneration for the work done by them. Jail Superintendent Dr. B.D. Pandey said that the jail administration will systematically conduct the activities related to self-employment of women prisoners. He assured full cooperation to the District Legal Services Authority and the voluntary organization. On this occasion, Additional District Judge/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Kamlesh Kumar Maurya addressed the women prisoners and motivated them to actively participate in the training. Rajesh Kumar Pandey, Jailor Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey, Manish Kumar, Deputy Jailor Moumsi Rai, Arun Kumar Singh and Chief Legal Aid Defense Council Akhilesh Kumar along with other officers and employees were present in the program.
