As of March 31, 2025, Gujarat ranks third in India in terms of registered taxpayers, with a 6.38% increase in taxpayers for the financial year 2024-25, which is higher than the national average of 3.86% increase. According to official data, the number of registered taxpayers in Gujarat has increased from 11,90,387 in the financial year 2023-24 to 12,66,886 in the financial year 2024-25, indicating a broadening of the tax base and increasing compliance in the state. Gujarat also performed best in key performance indicators, ranking second nationally with 71.69 points. Maharashtra leads with 73.93 points but Gujarat has topped 9 out of 22 performance parameters. On the revenue front, Gujarat made a significant contribution to national tax collection during the financial year 2024-25, collecting Rs 1,36,748 crore, up from Rs 1,25,169 crore in the financial year 2023-24. Currently, the state ranks third nationally in terms of revenue from states, contributing about 8.2% to the country’s domestic GST collection.
