Pew Research Center Report: Spread of Islam in the World: Muslim population crosses 2 billion in 10 years..Islam has become the fastest growing religion in the world

A recent report by the Pew Research Center has made a big revelation about the composition of the world’s population. According to the report, Islam is not only the second largest religion in the world but has also become the fastest growing religion. Between 2010 and 2020, the Muslim population has recorded a significant increase of 21 percent. This figure has now increased from 1.7 billion to 2 billion. The report shows that the growth rate of the Muslim population has been twice as fast as the global average population growth rate (10%). While the population of other religions has recorded an average increase of 9.7%, the Muslim population has maintained a share of 26% globally. This means that now one in every four people is a Muslim. On the other hand, there has been a slight decline in the Hindu population. While the global population of Hindus was 15% in 2010, it has come down to 14.9% in 2020. This represents a decline of 0.1 percentage points, indicating a slow expansion of the population. According to the report, the highest increase in the Muslim population was recorded in North America, where the increase was 52%. The total Muslim population here is now 5.9 million. Reasons such as conversions, refugee migration and natural population growth are responsible for the rapid spread of Islam in the region.
