There is a lot of anger among the villagers of Karamsad village after the state government’s decision to declare Anand a municipal corporation. The villagers and the Sardar Samman Sankalp Andolan Samiti are continuously protesting against the decision to include Karamsad, the hometown of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in the Anand Municipal Corporation. The Andolan Samiti has started a referendum campaign for “Independent Karamsad”. In which they have written a postcard to the Chief Minister opposing its merger with the Municipal Corporation and have threatened to boycott the elections. The postcard sent to the Chief Minister has written that, in opposition to the inclusion of Karamsad, the hometown of Sardar Saheb, in the Municipal Corporation, Karamsad village should remain independent and the unique identity of Sardar Saheb’s hometown should be maintained, their agitation has been going on since 5-1-2025. But till date, no response has been received from the government to this rightful demand of the Karamsad villagers. Also, with this demand, the 10-day political dharna demonstration program going on at Gandhiji Marg was also forcibly stopped by the police. Therefore, we, the villagers of Karamsad, appeal to you through this letter to do proper justice so that the unique identity of Sardar Saheb’s hometown is preserved.
