The encroachment that has been spreading for years in the village council Sirsia Kala of Padrauna tehsil has now taken a monstrous form. The village road, barn, wasteland and compost pit land have been encroached upon by making permanent and temporary constructions. This has not only hindered traffic, but is also killing the possibilities of village development. On land number 108, 87 and 88 which are recorded as roads, six permanent houses have now come up. The remaining space has been completely encroached upon by placing weeds and other material and the path has been narrowed. It has become difficult for the people of the village to even move around. Two permanent and three temporary constructions have been made on land number 193 and 198 which are recorded as barren land. On land number 73, which is reserved for barn, half a dozen cutteran sets have been put up. Due to this, farmers are not able to find a place to thresh their crops. Not only has permanent construction been done on land number 211 registered in the name of manure pit, but vegetable farming is also being done there now. Due to this encroachment, cleanliness and other schemes are also getting affected. Villagers say that this encroachment has been there for the last five years, but no concrete administrative action has been taken so far. Yadavendra and Bhola of the village have submitted a complaint letter to the District Magistrate and Sub-District Magistrate and demanded removal of all encroachments. They have warned that if immediate action is not taken, a massive hunger strike will be started in the village. The encroachment prevailing in the village is not only becoming a hindrance in the government’s schemes, but is also attacking the rights and lifestyle of the villagers. The villagers’ hopes are now pinned on the administration that a solution to this age-old problem will be found.
